Cozy And Warm On A Chilly Night In A Sleeping Bag

After having hiked over the mountain path for almost the better part of the day, one is just looking for the right place to settle down. The welcome site of the camping tent beckons you. It is time to unpack and have the packed dinner. One is looking forward to sliding into the comfortable and cozy sleeping bag that is rolled up. It gives you a satisfied feeling that there is the sleeping bag for you to slide in, zip in and drift away with the cool wind all around and millions of stars in the sky watching over you.

Carrying a bed with you when you are on a camping trip, hiking, trekking or climbing mountains is just not possible. But a sleeping bed which is almost a bed is just good enough. It is an improvised bed that can be easily carried with you during such trips. It looks like a blanket that is made to be a protective bag with zipper. The soft padding provides the softness and comforts. Its thermal insulations keep you warm in chilly nights. Sleeping bags are of two kinds. The first resembles a blanket with a zipper on one or either side so that the bag can be zipped up and closed. This type of sleeping bag are folded and rolled up, bound with straps or cords and packed onto your backpack. The second type of bag is the mummy bag as the shape is akin to a mummy. Broad on the shoulder tapering as it comes to the leg side, the mummy bag cannot be folded or rolled. It is stuffed into the stuff pack or the compression pack and carried on your rucksack.

The sleeping bags differ in their insulation capacities and ability to withstand water. You can get the sleeping bags suited to different situation and needs. The Marmot Hydrogen bag gives you the details of one such that leaves you warm at 30 Fahrenheit.

The insulation capacity, capacity to retain heat and water absorption capacity is different for different sleeping bags. Faster insulation is provided by synthetic fill sleeping bags. It also gives more warmth even when it is wet. Water is not easily absorbed. It is not possible to easily compress this sleeping bag. It takes up more space when packed into the backpack as a result. The heat retention capacity of the down fill bag is better though the insulation capacity is lower. The bag is lighter too.
