Exotic island travels

Camping is a great way to enjoy the outdoors. This experience can be enhanced by using pop campers instead of tents.

The setting

If you haven’t stayed at a New Forest campsite to camp before you won’t believe just what a lovely experience it can be. I turned up at Longbeech Campsite the other day to take some photos and even I was envious of the campers relaxing amongst the New Forest ponies and wildlife.

Hollands Wood is set in mature oak woods but not far away you can walk across the forest and go into more open country. As dusk falls you will see the New Forest deer as they start to wander around and they are a wonderful sight to see – but very shy so you have to be quiet. It is close to a stream which meanders through the edge of Brockenhurst and dogs and children ( and Mums and Dads too! ) like a paddle.

An added bonus with Hollands Wood campsite is that it also has a dog shower – so if the English weather is unkind and you come back a bit soggy (or muddy) you can hose your best friend down before they share your tent or caravan or motorhome – always to be recommended in the New Forest – I spend most of the winter “decanting” my lovely dog before she can be let indoors!

Activities

There’s lots to do if you use Hollands Wood Campsite as your base.

You are only a 10 minute walk into the lovely New Forest village of Brockenhurst. Here there are local shops like the marvellous butcher and greengrocer to buy your camp food (or the little Tesco if you run out of shampoo!).

There are tea rooms and shops to buy gifts and lots of little shops to just look in.

Pop campers provide comfortable accommodations that are much more secure then a tent. They usually come with netting or screens that allow of maximum air flow and light but will help keep unwanted critters and insects from getting to you or your food. They come with open screens as well as privacy screens for the windows so that other campers can’t see inside of your camper. Most campers will unfold at the ends creating two sleeping areas. These fold out sleeping areas range in size from a single sized bed  to a king sized bed. A lot of the new campers have 2 king “fold out” beds. Usually, the dining area can also be converted into a sleeping area too. This is great for families with children as there is a lot of room for everyone!

If you love camping but want a little more comfort, using a pop camper is a great way to enjoy the outdoors. You can enjoy all of your outdoor activities and campfires but at the end of the night, retreat to the comfort of your pop camper
